Before Computer-Laptop installed System Operation, it turns out there is already a firmware or a kind of paired Software. Namely the BIOS and UEFI are the basic places to set up the Laptop-Computer before turning it on. This basic setting is very useful for adjusting or adjusting the Computer-Laptop settings. BIOS firmware is also known as the Legacy Mode, because this BIOS is the first firmware used for desktop computers and was introduced in 1975 by IBM.

The BIOS which stands for Basic Input / Output System is an interface that connects between computer hardware and the operating system. Without the BIOS, we cannot install the operating system on our computer and of course our computer will not be able to be used. That is one example of how important the role of firmware is for our equipment. In addition, the BIOS also functions to check hardware readiness, set storage media, set the time on the system and also determine the boot from the operating system.
In the BIOS firmware there is the term UEFI or Legacy Mode, if you do not understand you should not change the BIOS initial settings. But if you want to re-install, then you must know because you have to change the settings in the BIOS.

The following is an explanation of the UEFI and Legacy Mode in the Laptop-Computer BIOS.

BIOS development
The BIOS has been present for a very long time and can be considered quite old school, even MS-DOS-based computers in the 1980s used this BIOS. Although the BIOS has changed and developed in terms of easier configuration but their development is not as fast as other technological developments. In addition there are still some limitations on the old BIOS system that we call the Legacy Mode, some of which are BIOS can only boot on drives of less than 2.1 TB, the BIOS must run on a 16-bit processor, and the BIOS only provides 1 space MB for the execution process.
Technology companies continue to develop BIOS and Firmware on Laptop-Computers, until finally in 2007, Intel, AMD, Microsoft and other computer manufacturers agreed to use the new EFI firmware and named UEFI, short for Unified Extensible Firmware Interface. This UEFI firmware is not only sheltered by Intel but is managed by a special forum. UEFI has been introduced to Windows since versions of Vista and Windows 7. And now all computers sold by any company must use this UEFI firmware, no longer using the old BIOS system, although there are still people who call this UEFI as a system BIOS.

UEFI and Legacy Mode differences
UEFI is the successor and successor of the system BIOS or Legacy Mode. Therefore we cannot directly exchange the BIOS system we have with UEFI, but we have to replace our old hardware with new hardware that supports the UEFI system. No need to worry if you find it difficult to adapt to the appearance of the new system, because UEFI also provides a BIOS emulator so we can still use our old operating system that requires booting from the BIOS. Such advantages are commonly called Backward Compatibility.
The BIOS system still uses the MBR partition table or Master Boot Record, while UEFI has used the GPT or GUID Partition Table. So, the differences between the two partition tables will also occur in the two firmware that use them. Here is a description of the differences between the two. The maximum limit of partition size on the MBR is 2 TB, while the GPT can reach 9 ZB. The MBR can only have 4 main partitions, while the GPT can have as many as 128 main partitions. Information about partitions in the MBR is only stored in 1 bootloader, while the GPT has a special system for storing more than one bootloader. Besides the differences from the partition table used, there are also several other differences between the UEFI system and the BIOS system. A pretty obvious difference is at boot speed, if the BIOS might take a few minutes while UEFI is only in seconds, this is caused by more space for execution. UEFI can also run in 32 bit and 64 bit modes.
Even UEFI also has a Secure Boot feature that further guarantees the security of the operating system, network features to remotely configure and troubleshoot, and several other advantages such as a more user-friendly display, ease of operation, more programmable, and one more thing that is sufficient distinguishing is that we can boot BIOS from UEFI, whereas from BIOS we cannot boot to UEFI.

Broadly speaking, the BIOS is only nominated with UEFI because its firmware system is easier to use than the more features.

That is the difference between the UEFI and Legacy Mode in the BIOS on Laptops, hopefully useful. Thank you for visiting Next Siooon.
