In this article Next Siooon will discuss about Disease Whooping cough, Information includes Understanding - Symptoms - And How to Prevent Disease Whooping cough.
Disease Whooping cough - one of the cough diseases caused by the bacterium Bordetella pertussis, whose transmission can be spread by air. Whooping cough or pertussis is a disease that is vulnerable to attacking anyone, especially children. Whooping cough can spread quickly from person to person. Therefore, pertussis vaccine is needed to prevent someone from getting this disease. The bacteria that cause whooping cough usually spread through the fluid that comes out when the patient coughs or sneezes. This cough is difficult to hold so it will interfere with our activities and those of others
If the cough is not immediately treated this will lead to more serious health problems. In some cases, the patient's ribs are injured by a very hard cough. For more severe cases, whooping cough can cause death from respiratory failure caused by it. The danger of this cough is that it can cause shortness of breath until the chest feels sore.
Causes of Whooping Cough
Bordetella pertussis bacteria that spread through the air are the cause of whooping cough. This bacterium enters and then attacks the patient's airway wall and releases toxins. The spread of this disease will last 3 weeks after coughing starts. Swelling of the airways is one way the body reacts to toxins released by bacteria. A swollen airway can make the patient have to breathe deeply through the mouth because of the difficulty of breathing. Doctors say whooping cough is a dangerous disease because it affects breathing.
Symptoms of Whooping Cough
Generally, symptoms of whooping cough will appear between 7-21 days after the Bordetella pertussis bacteria enter the person's respiratory tract. The development of symptoms of whooping cough are three stages, namely:
- First stage (period of initial symptoms). This stage is characterized by the appearance of mild symptoms, such as runny and stuffy nose, sneezing, watery eyes, sore throat, mild cough, and fever. This stage can last up to two weeks, and at this stage the patient is at risk of transmitting whooping cough to those around him.
- Second stage (paroxysmal period). This stage is marked by reducing all flu symptoms, but coughing gets worse and is not controlled. At this stage there is a continuous hard cough that begins with a long breath through the mouth. After a cough attack, patients can experience vomiting accompanied by fatigue, this generally occurs in infants and children. This stage can last two to four weeks or more.
- Third stage (healing period). At this stage, the patient's body starts to improve. However, symptoms of whooping cough can remain or even harder. This recovery phase can last up to two months or more, depending on the treatment.
What needs to be considered, coughing accompanied by a long breath (whooping) in the baby is usually accompanied by respiratory arrest. From a number of cases found, children who experienced pertussis did not get DPT immunization (diphtheria, pertussis, and tetanus). Whooping cough that is quite severe in infants and children can cause damage to the lungs. Therefore, immediately take it to the hospital to get the right treatment.
Whooping Cough Treatment
Whooping cough in adolescents and adults can usually be treated alone at home or with antibiotics according to a doctor's prescription. Antibiotics that are the choice for people with whooping cough are prophylactic antibiotics. In addition, other antibiotics that can be used are erythromycin (must be taken for 10 days) or macrolide antibiotics.
For information, antibiotics do not shorten the illness but shorten the infectious period (transmission period). Antibiotics will shorten the infectious period of 3 weeks to 5 days. Antibiotics are not given to diseases that have lasted more than 3 weeks because the infectious period has passed. This disease is more easily cured, but if left unchecked it is very dangerous, you should visit a doctor to get medicine. Immediately treat whooping cough because it can interfere with daily activities.
